Sava Toader, Rumania, 49
Medical History:
Sava first noticed a loss of flexibility in the fingers of his right hand, in 1998. Writing became more difficult for him. He developed stiffness in his neck and shoulder area so he went to the local hospital and was diagnosed with Parkinson´s disease. The local doctors gave him medications to control his symptoms. Two years later, he developed stiffness in his left lower limb and at about the same time developed tremors in all four limbs. Five years ago, his condition rapidly declined and his systemic tremors became more serious, which soon resulted in stiffness in all four limbs. He continued taking the anti-Parkinson´s medications, but the effectiveness of the drugs lasted only 2 to 4 hours.
